Less than a week after announcing its ambitions to truly break into the luxury car market with a new Genesis brand, Hyundai has offered a sneak peek of what to expect before the first model -- the G90 -- launches officially in December.

The G90 (or EQ900 in South Korea), renderings of which were published on Tuesday, will "Deliver a concept of ‘New Luxury' to our customers," said Woong-Chul Yang, Head of Hyundai Motor R&D Center. "The G90 sits at the pinnacle of the Genesis brand and demonstrates how we apply our human-centered values to give our customer true satisfaction in every aspect of the vehicle ownership experience."

On November 4 Hyundai announced its intention to compete with the likes of Mercedes, BMW, Lexus and Cadillac in the luxury car segment via the creation of a new standalone Genesis brand. "We have created this new Genesis brand with a complete focus on our customers who want smart ownership experiences that save time and effort, with practical innovations that enhance satisfaction," said Euisun Chung, Hyundai Motor Company Vice Chairman.

Along with the formation of the brand, Hyundai said that it will have launched six Genesis cars before decade's end and their design was being overseen by Luc Donckerwolke, whose CV includes Bentley, Audi and Lamborghini. He will work alongside the company's President and Chief Design Officer (CDO) of Hyundai Motor Group, Peter Schreyer, the man responsible for designing the Audi TT.

Six days later, Donckerwolke's and Schreyer's ideas for the brand are already very clear. The G90, which will go on sale in Korea before the end of 2015, has an "athletic elegance."

"In creating the design signature of Genesis brand cars, we set out to display confidence and originality, creating highly desirable products that present new charm through innovative styling and proportions," said Schreyer.

What's more, it looks remarkably similar in terms of proportions and coupé lines to the G Concept Coupé -- a car Hyundai showcased at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in August and which looked completely at home alongside Bentleys, Buicks and the new Lincoln Continental Concept.

"The Genesis models will provide technological innovation, excellent driving performance and luxury to customers," said Woong-Chul Yang. "Every Genesis model will be created with the needs of our customers in mind, so the resulting car will perfectly meet their needs without any unnecessary burden or excess."
