Leaked: Galaxy S7 release date set for March 11

With all of the hoopla surrounding the iPhone 7 and the rumored demise of the 3.5mm headphone jack, it’s easy to forget that Samsung is planning to refresh its own line of flagship smartphones sooner rather than later.

While we’ve long known that the rumoredGalaxy S7 and S7 Edge were going to launch sometime in early 2016, noted leaker Evan Blass recently took to Twitter with a quick note claiming that its S7 devices will launch in the U.S. on Friday, March 11.

Samsung will likely take the wraps off of its brand new smartphones next month, either on February 21 at a dedicated special event or at Mobile World Congress set to take place between February 22 and 25 in Barcelona. As is typically the case, there likely won’t be too many surprises in store given the impressive number of leaks we’ve already seen sprout up over the past few months.

As we’ve detailed previously, the Galaxy S7 will likely be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip and come with 4GB of RAM, a 2560 x 1140 Quad HD display, base level storage of 32GB, microSD support, much improved battery life, a 12-megapixel camera on the back along with a front-facing 5-megapixel camera, and last but not least, Android 6.01 Marshmellow as the OS.

On the software front, we’ve also seen reports that the S7 may incorporate apressure sensitive display, paving the way for a more immersive touch-based interface similar to what Apple implemented with 3D Touch on its line of iPhone 6s devices. More recently, we’ve even seen reports that the S7 may have a new photo feature dubbed Vivid Photos, delivering functionality similar to what Apple rolled out with Live Photos.
